Laminate flooring has come a long way

Laminate flooring today is affordable, durable and beautiful. It's a wonderful alternative to real wood, stone, and tile.

Yancey's House of Carpets is a family-owned company that’s been in business since 1980. Don’t let our company name fool you, because we offer a lot more than one product; in fact, our showroom carries many types of flooring, from hardwood to tile. We also provide services such as installation and carpet repair.

We’re a major laminate flooring retailer. Today’s laminate isn’t what you may remember from decades ago with that plastic feeling and flat images. Technology has changed all that.

Our showroom is in Cedar Grove, IN and we service Saint John, Cedar Lake, Lowell, Crown Point, Schererville and surrounds.

Be sure to visit our showroom. We invite you to explore our laminate flooring store. Be sure to ask about our estimates.

What is it?

Laminate flooring consists of several layers: First, there’s an underlayment, often pre-attached. If your choice doesn’t come with an underlayment, it's strongly recommended that you buy one. Then there's a core, usually high-density fiberboard (HDF). On top is the image layer that, thanks to digital photography, is remarkably realistic. Raised grains, knots, swirls, and veinings appear in the images. On top is a clear wear layer, coated with ultra-tough aluminum oxide, that protects the floor from scratches and spills, making it virtually impossible to “walk-off” the image.

Note: Underlayments provide extra cushioning, often act as moisture barriers and can reduce sound. Ask your retailer about the right one for your flooring.

Benefits

  • Style. It's a remarkable simulation of wood and comes in an assortment of species, patterns, designs, and colors. Special features, such as embossing gives it a textured look, adding additional depth and dimension. You can choose a matte or gloss finish.

  • Affordability. It is a fraction of the cost of real wood.

  • Durability. HDF is strong, but remember there’s also the super-strength of a top sheet.

  • Easy care. Sweep and mop are all that's required.

  • Simple installation. With few exceptions, it can be placed over existing floors. The pieces click together like a puzzle.

Laminate is made with some wood byproducts. Wood can be damaged by water, so wipe spills immediately. Also, make sure the boards are installed very tightly together so no water seeps in.
